What CO2 laser resurfacing does
A CO2 laser removes the outer layers of skin in a controlled way. As the skin heals, it builds new collagen, which smooths lines and texture and evens out tone. Collagen keeps remodeling for 6 to 12 months, so skin keeps improving after it heals.

CoolPeel light resurfacing
For a refresh with little downtime.
A light fractional CO2 treatment that improves glow, texture and fine lines. Skin is red, like a sunburn, for a day or two. Usually a series of 3 to 5 treatments, 4 weeks apart.
Full-face CO2 resurfacing
For lines, sun damage and laxity across the face.
Treats the whole face in one session. Often combined with a facelift or eyelid surgery.
Around the mouth

What is the difference between CoolPeel and deeper CO2 resurfacing?
CoolPeel is a light CO2 treatment with a day or two of redness and is usually done as a series. Deeper CO2 resurfacing treats more advanced lines, sun damage and scars in fewer sessions, with 10 to 14 days of social downtime.
Who is a good candidate?
People with fine lines, sun damage, uneven texture or acne scars. Deeper CO2 treatments are best suited to lighter skin types (Fitzpatrick types I to III, a scale of how skin responds to sun). For darker skin, Dr. Anghel may recommend a gentler setting or a different treatment.
How do I prepare?
Avoid sun exposure, retinoids and harsh exfoliants for 1 to 2 weeks before treatment. If you get cold sores, tell Dr. Anghel; she prescribes a preventive medicine before treatment around the mouth.
What is recovery like?
For 5 to 7 days after deeper resurfacing the skin is red, raw and may weep as the outer layer sheds. Most people return to social plans in 10 to 14 days. Redness fades over 4 to 8 weeks. Avoid the sun for at least 6 weeks and strenuous activity for 2 weeks.
Can I wear makeup afterward?
After CoolPeel, wait 24 hours. After deeper resurfacing, wait until the skin has healed, usually around day 7 to 10.
How long do results last?
Collagen keeps remodeling for 6 to 12 months, so skin keeps improving after it heals. Results last years; sun exposure and aging continue, and some patients choose maintenance treatments.
What procedures can I combine with laser resurfacing?

What are the risks?
Prolonged redness, darkening or lightening of the skin, infection including cold sore flares, and scarring. Dr. Anghel reviews each of these with you at your consultation.
