What eyelid and brow surgery does
Eyelid surgery addresses three things: the position of the lids, extra eyelid skin, and fat that bulges under the eyes. Dr. Anghel assesses each one, along with the position of the brows, to build an individual plan. Removing heavy upper lid skin can also improve vision.
The goal is eyes that look like yours, more open and awake, not a different face.
Fat grafting and CO2 laser resurfacing are often combined with lower eyelid surgery, to smooth the hollow between the lid and cheek and improve the skin.

Eyelid and brow procedures
Upper blepharoplasty
For extra upper eyelid skin or hooding.
The incision sits in the lid crease and is well hidden once healed. Upper lid fat can be reduced at the same time. It often improves vision.
Lower blepharoplasty
For bags and hollows under the eyes.
Bulging fat is adjusted through an incision inside the lower lid, so there is no visible outer scar. Usually combined with fat grafting and CO2 laser resurfacing.
Brow pexy
For a gentle lift and stabilization of the upper brow.
Done through the upper eyelid crease incision during upper blepharoplasty. The brow fat pad is re-supported to lift and steady the outer brow.
Endoscopic-style temporal brow lift
For brows that have moved lower.
Lifts and reshapes the brows through small incisions at the hairline. The scars are hidden in the hair.
Upper lid ptosis repair

Who is a good candidate for eyelid surgery?
Healthy adults bothered by heavy upper lids, low lids or bags under the eyes. Most patients are in their 50s or older; some are in their 30s or 40s, depending on anatomy. Patients must be nicotine-free 4 weeks before and 4 weeks after surgery.
How long is recovery?
Most patients return to work and social plans 10 to 14 days after surgery. Swelling peaks on day 2 or 3, bruising usually fades in 1 to 2 weeks, and vision can be blurry for the first few days to weeks.

For upper eyelid surgery, in the lid crease, fading to a fine white line. For lower eyelid surgery, the incision is inside the lower eyelid, so there is no visible outer scar. A brow pexy uses the upper lid crease incision, and a temporal brow lift incision is hidden at the hairline.

How do I prepare?
Stop nicotine at least 4 weeks before surgery, and avoid blood-thinning medicines as Dr. Anghel directs. Plan for a support person for the first 24 to 48 hours. The practice can arrange hired help if you need it.
What are the risks?
Dry eyes, blurry vision, a change in eyelid position, bleeding, infection, delayed healing, scarring, nerve problems, being unhappy with the result, and risks of anesthesia. Dr. Anghel reviews each of these with you at your consultation.
